When I am designing an event, I think of the couple first, as I believe it is critically important that a wedding is a true depiction of the couple. With this follows the design and different elements that I incorporate into their event, but a guiding principle if mine is that the event design always paints a clear picture of my client's style.
As always, I start with the selection of venue, as the venue is my "blank canvas" upon which we create. For this winter wedding, staging the photo shoot made sense to me if it was located in an industrial warehouse so I chose Sandbox Venue in Downtown San Diego. I wanted elements of "edge, romance, modern and minimalism" as the style points for this wedding.
The colors were simple. Greens and whites mixed with neutral tones from pampas grass for the florals. A white, contoured dress for the elegant, classic yet fashion-forward, bride topped off with a black sash for a pop of that modern romance that I was looking for. The makeup was simple yet statement-worthy and reminiscent of Chanel advertisements from Vogue Magazine. I decided to tie the bride's hair back in a modern and low chignon bun and she became a perfect combination of romance, elegance and timelessness.
Next came the dinner table. I knew that I wanted to tie it all in together and make sure that the table design matched the bride's final look. For this aspect, I used metal tolix chairs, a modern hairpin table and a white table runner that loosely cascaded the floor. I incorporated vintage silverware, vintage silver candleholders and vintage silver chargers to bring in an old-world romantic vibe. For dessert, Milly's Fine Cakes designed an art deco two-tiered wedding cake adorned with pops of gold and burgundy flowers and figs. What truly tied the reception together was a coffee cart that served cappuccinos through out the evening. It was all so delicious.
The market lights that hung from the ceilings and walls gave the event a touch of moody, wintry feelings that flowed so well with the design. I invite you to scroll through the photos below that were captured so beautifully by Kelly Wood Clark Photography. It didn't hurt to add elements of black and white into this photo shoot, which is a favorite and timeless color combination of mine that I absolutely love. As you may know, LSE is all about being modern, stylish, chic and timeless. Make sure to spot the black and white movie that was playing in the background during dinner. What do you think? I'm all for small details that make all the difference.
